Captain Greg knows these waters like the back of his hand, and he'll put you right where the fish are biting. Whether you're after Lake Trout, Steelhead, Brown Trout, or any of the salmon species, we've got you covered. Plus, our top-notch First Mate will be there to lend a hand every step of the way. It's the perfect trip for those who want to sleep in a bit but still get their line wet.
As we push off from the dock, you'll feel the excitement build. The vast expanse of Lake Michigan stretches out before you, teeming with fish just waiting to be caught. Our well-equipped boat has everything you need for a successful day on the water. We'll cruise to the captain's favorite spots, where you'll drop your lines and wait for that telltale tug. Don't worry if you're new to this – our crew is here to show you the ropes. And when you land that big one, get ready for some bragging rights and a photo op. Just remember to bring your own cooler to take your catch home. Oh, and a word to the wise: pack some snacks and water. Nothing works up an appetite quite like reeling in Lake Michigan's finest.
On this trip, we're all about trolling – it's the name of the game for targeting these Lake Michigan species. We'll set up multiple lines off the back of the boat, each with different lures and at various depths. It's like a fishing buffet for the trout and salmon down there. We use downriggers to get our bait down deep where the big ones lurk, and planer boards to spread our lines out wide. You'll see firsthand why this method is so effective. Our rods and reels are top-of-the-line, designed to handle anything from a scrappy rainbow to a monster king salmon. And don't sweat it if you're not sure how to use them – that's what we're here for. We'll walk you through everything, from setting the drag to fighting your fish like a pro.
"Great Times!! Excellent adventures!" - Gregory
"Wow! exceptional charter fishing experience. Captain Greg and Cathy are a husband/wife Team. Captain Greg introduced his "first mate" as one of the best in Milwaukee and that, we quickly saw, is the truth. These two went above and beyond in every way with an attitude of EXCELLENCE in every touch. HIGHLY recommend Hold'em Sportfishing out of McKinley Marina, Milwaukee. Mom, Dad, and three sisters went out on this trip for our Father's day wish. Every thing from the safety of the boat, to navigating to determined hunting down the fish, to docking, cleaning & packaging the fish for take home and EVEN photos with several phones. This couple has a passion in what they are doing and provided an experience as though we were their own family. Besides some lake trout, king salmon, and rainbow trout, we have memories that will last a lifetime." - Billie Sue
Rainbow Trout (Steelhead): These acrobatic fighters are a favorite among anglers. In Lake Michigan, they can grow to impressive sizes, often reaching 10 pounds or more. Steelhead are known for their spectacular leaps and powerful runs when hooked. They're most active in the cooler months, but can be caught year-round. Their flesh is prized for its delicate flavor, making them a top target for both sport and table.
Coho Salmon: Often called "silver salmon," these fish are known for their aggressive strikes and tasty meat. They typically weigh between 4-8 pounds in Lake Michigan, but can get bigger. Cohos are usually the first salmon to start biting in the spring, making them a popular early-season target. They're fast swimmers and put up a great fight, often making multiple runs before coming to the net.
Chinook Salmon (King Salmon): The heavyweights of Lake Michigan, Chinooks can top 30 pounds. These bruisers are the ultimate trophy fish, known for their power and stamina. When a big king hits your line, hold on tight – you're in for a battle. They're most active in late summer and early fall as they prepare to spawn. Landing a king salmon is often the highlight of an angler's season.
Brown Trout: These crafty fish are known for their wariness and fighting ability. Lake Michigan browns can grow huge, with fish over 20 pounds not unheard of. They prefer cooler water and are often found closer to shore, especially in spring and fall. Brown trout are less predictable than other species, which makes catching them all the more rewarding.
Lake Trout: The native heavyweight of Lake Michigan, lake trout can live for decades and grow to massive sizes. They're typically found in deeper, cooler water and are often caught using downriggers. Lake trout fight with dogged determination, using their big bodies to dive deep. They're prized for their rich, oily flesh, which is excellent for smoking.

Brown trout are the wily veterans of Lake Michigan. These fish typically run 16-24 inches, but trophy specimens over 30 inches aren't uncommon. You'll often find them near shore, around rocky structure or near river mouths. Browns are known for their cautious nature and hard-fighting ability when hooked. Their golden-brown coloration and red spots make them a beautiful catch. Spring and fall offer prime fishing, but we target them year-round. To fool these smart fish, try trolling or casting with minnow-imitating lures. Early mornings and evenings are often most productive. One local trick: focus on areas with current breaks or temperature changes. Browns like to ambush prey in these spots. When you hook one, be ready for powerful runs and last-minute dives near the boat. The combination of their elusive nature, hard fights, and excellent table fare makes brown trout a favorite target for many Lake Michigan anglers.

Chinook salmon, or kings, are the heavyweight champs of Lake Michigan. These bruisers can top 30 pounds, with 15-25 pounders being common catches. You'll find them in deeper, cooler waters during summer, moving shallower in fall as they prepare to spawn. Kings are known for their powerful runs and dogged fights. Their rich, flavorful meat is excellent for grilling or smoking. Late summer and early fall offer peak fishing, but we catch them all season. To land one of these giants, try trolling with large spoons or plugs that mimic alewives - their favorite prey. Downriggers help get your lures to the right depth. When a king hits, it's usually a sledgehammer strike. Be ready for a battle that can last 20 minutes or more. The sheer size and power of Chinooks make them a bucket list fish for many anglers on the big lake.

Coho salmon, also called silvers, are a blast to catch on Lake Michigan. Typically 24-30 inches long and 8-12 pounds, these fish are known for their acrobatic fights. You'll find them in the cooler, deeper waters during summer, moving closer to shore in fall as they prepare to run up rivers to spawn. Cohos hit hard and fast, often leaping clear out of the water when hooked. Their orange-red meat is prized for its rich flavor. Spring and fall offer the best action, but summer can be productive too. To up your odds, try trolling with flashy spoons or cut bait at varying depths. Keep an eye on your electronics - cohos often suspend in the water column. When you hook one, hang on tight and be ready for some spectacular aerial displays. The fight and flavor of these fish make them a top target for many Lake Michigan anglers.

Lake trout are the true natives of Lake Michigan, and they can grow big. These fish commonly reach 15-25 pounds, with some topping 40 pounds. You'll find them in the deepest, coldest parts of the lake, often suspended over underwater structure. Lakers are known for their powerful, steady fights and delicious firm, pink flesh. Summer offers consistent action, but spring and fall can be hot too. To target these bottom-dwellers, try jigging with large spoons or trolling with dodgers and flies. Keep an eye on your electronics - lakers often hold tight to specific depth contours. One local tip: use scented baits or strips of fresh alewife to entice bites. When you hook up, be patient. Lake trout fights are more about steady pressure than quick bursts. The chance to catch a true Great Lakes native, combined with their size and quality meat, makes lake trout a sought-after species for many anglers.

Rainbow trout are a favorite among anglers here on Lake Michigan. These beauties usually run 20-30 inches and put up an exciting fight. You'll find them in cooler waters, often near drop-offs or around structure. Spring and fall are prime seasons, but we catch them year-round. Rainbows are known for their acrobatic leaps and runs when hooked. Their pink-orange meat is delicious too, whether grilled or smoked. To boost your chances, try trolling with flashy spoons or small plugs that mimic baitfish. Early mornings tend to be most productive. Keep your drag set light - these guys can make sudden, powerful runs. Rainbow trout fishing is addictive once you get into it. The combination of their fighting spirit and table quality keeps anglers coming back for more.
